Application
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to process materials using machines that are fixed to a set location. Materials to be processed may be acrylic, glass, laminates, metal, stone or timber.
The unit supports construction workers responsible for producing components for external or internal elements of buildings or fittings, such as wall units and benchtop units. This work is conducted off site and may include working with others and as a member of a team. It applies to residential and commercial componentry.
No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit of competency at the time of endorsement.

Evidence of Performance
A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. The person must also:
produce complete sets of components for two freestanding units, such as workstations or showcases
produce components using a panel saw, docking saw, grinder and drill and at least one other static machine listed in the range of conditions
process at least three different materials listed in the range of conditions.
During the above work, the person must:
comply with health and safety regulations applicable to workplace and machine operations
comply with organisational policies and procedures relating to carrying out machining operations, including quality assurance requirements
identify and apply manufacturer recommendations when using machine
identify and correctly apply guarding requirements for operating machine
use correct set-up procedures for machine operations prior to use
use correct start-up procedures for operating machines
use safe and effective operation of machine
use correct shut-down and switch-off procedures on completion of machining operation
clean and maintain machine correctly
place or remove cutters and blades safely and according to established procedures.
Evidence of Knowledge
A person demonstrating competency in this unit must demonstrate knowledge of:
types of components that can be produced using static machines
types of construction materials to be processed and their characteristics
procedures relating to basic maintenance of static machines
contents of and terms used in job safety analyses (JSA) and safe work method statements (SWMS) for operating static machines
material handling techniques relating to working with static machines
types of static machines, and their application and operation
workplace and equipment safety requirements relating to the use of static machines.
